‘Caring about achievement for all’

I would like to welcome you to Burnt Ash Primary School. We are an inclusive, vibrant school and pride ourselves on putting our children at the centre of our vision and ethos. Our committed staff work hard to ensure that all our children develop the confidence and resilience to become independent learners. Teachers have developed an exciting and engaging curriculum that nurtures children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, encouraging individual talents and goals to flourish at the same time.

‘Parents and pupils told us that the school’s positive approach to education is what makes the school so special.’  Ofsted Oct 2019

Burnt Ash Primary is an outstanding school. We have high expectations and genuinely care about achievement for all. We are a forward thinking school and continually develop our curriculum and environments to inspire our children to become curious
and motivated Burnt Ash learners. Our children develop as well- rounded individuals who consistently achieve excellent academic results.

‘Pupils achieve exceptionally well in reading, writing and mathematics.’ Ofsted Oct 2019

Fostering a love of reading is something we are passionate about. Children are immersed in an enjoyable reading curriculum and will come home talking about their favourite stories, characters and books! We put energy into helping children learn to
read fluently as quickly as possible as we know this prepares them well for the challenges of the wider curriculum.

Classrooms and learning spaces have been thoughtfully designed to reflect our vision and ethos, enabling children to be independent and curious with opportunities to follow their own ideas and interests. New starters in our reception classes enjoy learning in a safe, stimulating and attractive free-flow learning environment with its own large outdoor area. Teachers and learning support staff are highly skilled and know exactly when to intervene to enhance children’s learning and when to step back and allow their creativity to flourish.

At Burnt Ash we strongly believe that learning is enriched and made more memorable through first hand experiences. Enquiry themed days, school trips and specialist visitors stimulate children’s interests as well as bring the curriculum to life. Our biannual whole school trip to the seaside is a firm favourite with the whole school community! We have our own Forest school leader and make excellent use of the local community garden so children take part in regular outdoor learning. Burnt Ash
offers a well-resourced environment with a sensory room, soft-play room, computer suite, library, music room, courtyard gardens and large playing fields directly opposite the school. Children have the opportunity to join a wide range of activity clubs during and after school.

All staff understand the need to nurture the whole child and are supported by our pastoral team who play a key role in nurturing children’s wellbeing. They are also there to offer guidance, support and a listening ear for parents.

‘There is rarely any bullying here. Pupils explained to us that there is always an adult they can turn to if they feel upset. They said that any worries are taken very seriously and sorted out quickly.’ Ofsted Oct 2019

Our nursery is an integral part of our school and works closely with our reception classes to help prepare children for starting school, giving them the opportunity to become familiar with school life and take part in whole school activities. We also
provide our own high quality, affordable wrap around care- breakfast and after school club.

I hope you enjoy watching our open day video-the children are incredibly proud of their school and enjoyed showing it off! Have a look at our twitter feed on the school website to see some of the many exciting opportunities children get to experience.

Please contact the school office for details of our open day visits. I look forward to welcoming you to Burnt Ash Primary school.
